We passed this cirque on the way up to the summit.
Gordon looking down from the summit of Malyovitsa...
This is the chalet we stayed in. Eight beds to a room, expensive (and hard to acquire) food, and staff that really meant it when they said, "Tuka E Taka." It means something like "this is the way it is so F'ing deal with it." (We had problems with the lady running the joint - she didn't like Americans, at all.) Other than that it was a great trip.
This is Gordon wrestling with one of the local dogs. He (the dog, not Gordon) was fitted with an anti-wolf collar of wicked steel barbs.
Some of the winter shacks outside the chalet.
Looking down the drainage towards the chalet on the hike back down. Gordon took this shot.
Greg Munby, yelling at us to get going the morning before the hike.
Gordon and Dusty, intrepid travelers and an awesome couple.
The trail was marked with paint the whole way up. Many times it was a rock scramble so the paint was totally necessary.
Yes, that is the moon.
Greg and Martin play invisible mountain chess.
Occasionally the fog would break, giving us a glimpse of the nearby mountains.
Martin, Bensi, and Miro. Three of Greg's Bulgarian buddies that joined us for the trip.
Here is that small cirque from up above. Gordon swears he saw a fish jump.
Doing some bouldering the next day.
Blueberries, yummy.
Hiking up to the summit. It was signified by two of these giant cairns.
From left to right. Martin, Kazaka, Bensi, Dusty, Aaron, Gordon, Greg. Miro had to leave early to get to work.
Notice the fire scar on the right...
